Security: Fixing Address Spoofing


Slide 55 of Lecture 10 claims that it’s “probably simple to fix spoofing.” I see how you could do it easily with circuit switching, but how would you do it otherwise (i.e. in a packet-switched network)?


This is to point out that if we knew where the packet comes from (e.g., keep track of that or verify that somehow), then it would be easy to identify spoofing. However, because we only focus on destination for routing (or dropping packets), it is difficult (if not impossible) to identify spoofing.
